  • there are two restaurants called efrain’s, but they are not associated. only efrain’s of boulder is operated by efrain and his nephew cristian. efrain’s in lafayette is operated by efrain’s brothers and sisters. we have different recipes, prices, personnel and policies.

  • the olives we use in our plates are to distinguish different plates, not for garnish

  • we don’t use any lard in our cooking

  • chile verde is a brothy meat dish made with lean, tender pieces of pork, several varieties of chilies, tomatoes and seasoning. it is hot and the intensity may vary due to the chilies used at any particular time in the growing season. this is true of all our dishes made with chilies.

  • mondongo is akin to the beef stew your grandmother made but with fewer vegetables and more beef. it is mild.

  • green salsa is a vegetarian sauce made with fresh jalapeño peppers and seasoned with tomatoes, green onion, garlic and seasonings. it is hot.

  • red salsa is a vegetarian sauce made with tomatoes, fresh vegetables and seasoning. it is a medium heat.

  • refried beans are cooked and mashed beans and are a traditional staple of mexican cuisine.

  • mexican rice is soft and melts in your mouth. made with white rice and cooked with tomatoes, onion, garlic, and seasoning. no chicken bullion is used in its preparation.

  • efrain’s of boulder was originally located at 1630 63rd street from 1998 to 2022. in may of 2022 we relocated to our current location at 2480 canyon blvd unit m1.

  • efrain is getting the next generation of his family ready to take over in the years to come. efrain’s nephew cristian is his general manager and will be taking over the business when efrain retires. cristian’s number one priority is to keep the family recipes authentic. he has been working closely along side efrain for over a decade.

Allergen Menu

At efrain’s of boulder, we take every precaution to accommodate our customers' dietary needs and preferences. However, please be aware that despite our best efforts, cross-contamination of allergens and foods may occur in our kitchen.

Please be advised that all items on our menu at Efrain's are prepared using canola or vegetable oil in one way or another. While we strive to provide a diverse selection of delicious dishes, this means that individuals with allergies or sensitivities to canola or vegetable oil should avoid and or exercise caution when dining with us. For individuals with such concerns, we recommend seeking dining alternatives that align with your dietary requirements

GLUTEN/wheat: We offer gluten free dishes, however, we aren’t a gluten free kitchen. we’re not trained in the intricacies of celiac disease or gluten intolerance and our staff can’t provide recommendations on this issue. be sure to ask for corn tortillas!

Dairy/eggs: we offer dairy/egg free dishes, however, we aren’t a dairy/egg free kitchen.

nuts, tree nuts, sesame, fish, crustacean shellfish, soybeans, peanuts, celery, lupin: our kitchen is free from all of these allergens.
